Dan Brooks
I love abstract expressionism and have been influenced by great number of artists as well as the wonderful beauty of the Northwest. Born and raised in Seattle, I had the good fortune to personally know and study with many local artists and teachers such as Alden Mason, Richard Kehl and George Tsutakawa (Seattle, WA) plus John Simpson, Russell Day, (Everett,WA). After leaving the University of Washington Art Department, I attended the San Francisco Art Institute where Richard Diebenkorn, Fred Martin, James Broughton and Elmer Bischoff also had an influence upon my work. Some of my major early influences also included many from the Northwest School of artists including Guy Anderson, Kenneth Callahan, Mark Tobey, Morris Graves and William Cumming. I recently returned to school to complete my BFA and MEd from Western Washington University where I studied painting with Barbara Sternberger and Cynthia Camlin and sculpture with one of my favorite people, the late Sebastian Mendes.
